To aid your transition into vacation mode, we hope you will enjoy a complimentary bottle of Barfold Estate’s current range from the wine refrigerator in your suite. Best enjoyed alongside your favourite playlist on our Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker system (instructions on pairing your devices are included in the guest booklet inside your suite, upon arrival).

You’re welcome to drink to your heart’s content — your first bottle is on us, while the remainder will be filed on your credit card upon completion of your stay; no further thought required.

A wine list is included in the front pocket of your guest information book for your convenience.

If you would like to tour the Heathcote wine region, please reach out to your host ahead of your stay – we are more than happy to advise our selection of local vineyards, wineries and producers.

Cooking
Your suite is fitted with a full-size kitchen including electric oven and stovetop — you’re welcome, and encouraged, to make full use of the kitchen and herb gardens. For grocery shopping, we recommend Watts Fresh in Kyneton (15 mins by car). A list of all stocked utensils follows. Any further requirements may be available, upon request — please don’t hesitate to ask.

Foraging
There are multiple herb gardens on the estate for you to use — one garden features continental herbs, and another highlights less commonly used Australian native herbs. Herbs are signposted in each garden.

Tea & Coffee
Your suite is fitted with an Alessi Stovetop Moka Pot, coffee plunger and teapot. Ground coffee is our preferred way to start the day, and can be found in your refrigerator. The coffee is ground on-premise, just prior to your arrival to ensure its freshness. Teapot, loose leaf tea, strainer, and tea cups are also provided.

Dining
There are plenty of high quality options for dining in the region.

5 minutes down the road, towards Heathcote, you will find the Redesdale Hotel, a beautiful bluestone country pub that serves well-executed, classic pub fare and a broad range of local wines and beer. It’s a quintessential country experience and we’re proud to be regulars.

Kyneton is a 15 minute drive back towards Melbourne.
Piper St, Kyneton, offers a number of options to suit various budgets — our picks are Midnight Starling (French, $$$), Spaghetti Bar (Italian, $$), Miss M’s Lounge (European, $$) or Dhaba at the Mill by Jessi Singh (Indian, $). For coffee, we recommend Little Swallow Cafe (Cafe, $), and for baked goods be sure to try Grist (Bakery, $).

A 25 minute drive will have you arriving at Heathcote — our pick of the town is Chauncy (French / Modern Australian, $$$).

Also within a 35 minutes drive are Castlemaine, Woodend and Macedon. Each offers a number of quality dining and wine destinations.

Recreation

— Swimming and natural attractions

Nearby swimming holes and natural attractions
The region boasts some of Victoria’s best swimming holes (if we may say so ourselves).

Turpin’s Falls is a large waterfall and pool, the result of the Campaspe River flowing over a wide 20 metre high rock wall surrounding a deep billabong. The site is supremely popular (probably too popular) amongst Melburnians, and, as a result, is intermittently closed to the public by Parks Victoria. The falls are most impressive during Winter and Spring. Check online before visiting.

The Cascades at Metcalfe are a large layer of bedrock upon which the Coliban River flows. The water of the river weaves across the rock, creating rock pools, crevices and caverns. Some rock pools are large enough for swimming. Picnic tables are also available.

Black Hill reserve (12 mins) offers beautiful trails through peaceful native bush land (there are 3.9km, 2.7km and 1.7km routes depending on your time and energy).

Expedition Pass Reservoir (25 mins) is a large reservoir near Chewton towards Castlemaine. It offers a beautiful spot for a dip. Bring a picnic rug and a bottle of Barfold and make a day of it! This spot can be quite popular on hot days, so come prepared.

Internet

Your suite has been fitted with a high speed, low latency Starlink satellite internet connection. It is equally suitable for video calls or streaming your favourite feature film. Instructions to connect can be found in the guest information booklet inside your suite.

Displays
The Samsung Frame display in your suite is suitable for streaming via AirPlay (iOS & Mac devices). The displays are also setup with Netflix accounts.

Music
Nestled upon the oak shelving you will find a portable Bang & Olufsen bluetooth speaker. The speaker is rechargeable and portable, so feel free to enjoy your desired playlist wherever you so desire, but please be mindful of other guests when enjoying the outdoors and take care not to expose the speaker to the elements.

Fireplace and firewood
Your fireplace will be set prior your arrival. To light the fire, simply light the supplied fire starter and watch as your handiwork roars to life, bathing your suite in a warm, flickering glow.
